This dictionary has major advantages compared to other English-Persian dictionaries. For the student of Persian, the pronunciation of the Persian rather than the English is emphasized. It provides the Persian equivalent of an English word, rather than using a descriptive definition. The more commonly preferred American usage is cited. Historically, Persian dictionaries have assumed the reader to be versed in British usage DARIUS B. GILANI is a native of Iran, spending most of his life in the United States studying and teaching languages. He received his BA in 1976 from San Jose State University and completed his MA in linguistics at the same university in 1978. He taught Persian at San Jose State and Stanford universities for fifteen years. He spent three years compiling this dictionary."
